Changelog
Every version that reached the Chrome Web Store, newest first, with the date it went live. InstaDesk launched on 29 July 2026 and shipped seven releases to users in its first month. Builds that were superseded before they were uploaded are not listed here: nobody received them, so counting them would overstate the pace. From 3.0.0 on, the date is the first day the store's own report shows people running that version.
4.0.0 — 27 October 2026
Music and stories
- Add music has real song lists: Popular, Genres and Moods, 67 songs in all. Every one is Instagram's own licensed audio, checked clean, and used in 50,000 reels or more. Instagram is asked about a song only when you press Play or Use.
- Rising shows the reel counts of the songs you played and which ones are going up. It is Pro, with two free looks on a new install.
- Share to my story: a button on your own posts, in the feed, on the post's page and on your profile grid, and "or share one of your posts" on the Story tab.
Easier to use
- Reply drafts is simpler: the replies come first, one draft per person, a switch for each job, and you still press Send.
- The pink InstaDesk icon shows as soon as Instagram loads, the toolbar icon always opens something, and a logged-out page says to log in first.
- A short 4.0 opening plays once inside the menu after the update. A click or any key skips it.
Gentler on your account
- Reply drafts' own check and Grow account run only in an Instagram tab you can see, and some background reads stop.
- Once a day, unless you switch it off in Settings, InstaDesk sends anonymous totals of which tools were used and which posts went up or failed, with no ID of any kind. The privacy policy lists them.
Free and Pro
- Posting, stories, Instagram's music and downloads stay free. From 27 October, Pro is $14.50 a month for new subscribers. Anyone already paying keeps the price they pay.
3.3.2 — October 2026
The first update since 3.1.2. It carries everything built since then: 3.2.0 to 3.3.1 were finished and tested but never released on their own, so they arrive together here.
Stories and posting
- Share to story: after a post goes up, press Share to story and it goes on your story as a card. Tapping the card opens the post.
- Story sets: up to 10 photos and videos posted one after another in the order you choose, each with its own link. Post them now or schedule the set.
- Your own words on the link sticker, like SHOP MY LOOK, in place of the web address.
- Links on video stories: the sticker is drawn into the video, with the song if there is one.
- A scheduled post waits for the Instagram account that scheduled it. With two accounts in one Chrome, it goes up once you switch back. A story set picks up where it stopped if the tab reloads, and never posts a frame twice.
An easier start
- A new install opens on four buttons: Post a story with a link, Post or reel, Add music, and Download photos and videos. Every other tool is under More tools. An update keeps the menu it had, and Settings can switch either way.
- InstaDesk in English, Japanese and Portuguese (Brazil). A new install asks which, with your browser's language picked, and Settings changes it. Nearly every panel follows it; a few rare messages and logs stay in English for now.
- Download photos and videos lists only the post, reel or story you have open.
Messages and the AI
- Autopilot is now Reply drafts, and it only drafts. For a DM, InstaDesk opens the conversation with the reply typed in Instagram's own message box, and you press Send. Instagram moved messages on its website to a new system in the summer, and the old way of sending them had stopped working.
- Reply drafts reads new DMs again, the same way Instagram's own inbox page does. Message requests still can't be read.
- A DM draft goes into Instagram's box once. If it can't go in, InstaDesk shows it with a Copy button instead of saying it failed.
- Ask: a question that needs numbers InstaDesk hasn't read yet is answered for free and kept for later, so it no longer uses one of your free questions. It opens with starters that work straight away, and shows how many free questions are left only after the first answer.
- Memory is now called What it knows, and it opens on one line saying what is on record.
Gentler on your account
- Follower scans read lists the way a person scrolls them, run once a day per account, and stop at the first sign Instagram is pushing back. A scan that is refused gives back its free use.
- Grow account tops out at 150 likes and 40 follows a day, and stops for a day after two failures in a row.
- A scheduled post that Instagram asks to slow down or verify fails once, with a plain message, instead of trying again six times.
Free and Pro
- Each frame of a scheduled story set counts as one of the free plan's scheduling slots. Pro is still $1.99 a month, and posting, stories, Instagram's music and downloads stay free.
- Once a day, InstaDesk sends the day's totals of how often the upgrade screen showed, checkout opened and a payment went through. They carry no account, no install ID and no Instagram data; the privacy policy lists them.
- Going over a free limit opens the Pro panel on top of the composer instead of closing it, so your photos, link and time stay where you left them.
3.1.2 — 2 October 2026
- A link on a photo story is drawn onto the story where you placed it, as a white sticker with the site's name, the way Instagram's app draws one, and the whole sticker is what people tap. Before, the link was an invisible spot, and on a phone the story showed no sticker.
- The privacy policy says that the files of scheduled posts and the Memory record are kept in instagram.com's storage in Chrome and stay after an uninstall, and how to clear them. Memory and Account insights now say what Ask sends, where they used to say none of it left your computer.
- Dozens of smaller fixes from a full review of the extension.
3.0.4 — 28 September 2026
- Autopilot only drafts: every reply, welcome and DM it writes waits for you to press Send. A setting that said to send automatically now makes drafts.
- Ask's plans still run with one button, but never send a message, post a comment or queue a post without you, and a message always names who it goes to.
- A photo story with a song goes up as a short video with the song in it, and the story names its song. A photo story sits on a background of its own colours.
- InstaDesk reads far less from Instagram in the background, and waits half an hour when Instagram asks it to slow down, so it no longer gets your session rate-limited. A scheduled post that meets the limit waits too, instead of trying again at once. Account insights says what is really wrong when it can't load.
- Carousel thumbnails drag to reorder, and Grow account takes the hours you choose.
- The store listing and the privacy policy list what reaches InstaDesk's relay and the AI provider.
3.0.2 — 22 September 2026
- Pro is $1.99 a month: one plan, cancel anytime from inside the extension. Posting, stories, real Instagram audio and downloads stay free.
3.0.1 — 20 September 2026
- Every answer from Ask ends with three follow-up questions you can tap.
- The last free answer says the next one is Pro, and the upgrade panel names the question Pro would answer.
3.0.0 — 13 September 2026
- Ask: a small window over Instagram, opened from the orb in the corner or Ctrl+Shift+K, that answers from your own record and lays out plans, such as a week of posts from a folder of files, with one button to run them.
- Autopilot, off until you read and tick a risk notice: it writes replies to comments on your posts and to your DMs in your voice, within caps fixed in the code, can like comments on your posts, and writes everything it does to a log.
- Memory: one record of your account — followers by day, every post's numbers, who left, what you queued, the sounds in your feed — kept a year on your computer, with export and forget. A Today card at the top of the menu reads from it.
- Ask, Autopilot and captions run on InstaDesk's own model through InstaDesk's relay, which passes the text to the model provider and keeps none of it; with your own AI key they go to your provider instead. Free uses are now counted per Instagram account on that relay, so a reinstall does not reset them. The privacy policy lists what the relay receives.
- A feedback link in the menu, and a question that gets no answer gives its free use back.
2.0.0 — 30 August 2026
- Account insights tries four ways to read a profile before giving up, and says which one failed.
- A full report on any public account, read up to 250 posts deep: posts per month, engagement against accounts of a similar size, the format that earns more, best hours and top posts.
- Grow account rebuilt as a dashboard: start and stop at the top, today's progress on plain meters, and a 24-hour chart of what ran.
- Scheduling into the hours you actually post, and a caption per post from a spreadsheet.
- Pinned posts: pin any photo or reel to a shelf on your computer and save them all in one press.
1.6.4 — 27 August 2026
- The upgrade panel now reads your real remaining free uses instead of a stale trial flag, so it no longer tells people who have run out that nothing has started.
- Unfollower tracking, bot detection and follower export became free to open — a use is only spent when you actually run the scan or the export.
- Checkout failures are visible instead of silent.
- The toolbar icon opens InstaDesk, focusing the Instagram tab you already have open rather than adding a second one.
1.6.3 — 25 August 2026
- The themed like button: a per-theme glyph and burst across all ten layered themes — a star on Galaxy, a coin on Money, a leaf on Sage Garden.
1.6.0 — 25 August 2026
- Eleven themes in three collections, restyling posts, menus and dialogs. It runs in your browser only: nobody else sees it and your account is untouched.
- Downloads made free.
- Media overlay fixes — the download and audio buttons now follow the visible carousel slide instead of only the first.
1.4.1 — 17 August 2026
- Grow account: likes and follows on hashtags, checked against your account size first, with visible caps, an explicit consent step and every action written to an activity log.
- Hashtag fit, showing which tags an account your size can realistically place in.
- The locale fix that made the toolkit work on non-English Instagram.
1.2.4 — 13 August 2026
- Store listing localised into 53 languages.
1.2.2 — 11 August 2026
- First-run setup retries until it succeeds, instead of failing silently on a slow page.
- Locale-independent navigation, so the sidebar entry is found regardless of interface language.
- Command palette, and containment so InstaDesk's keystrokes never leak into Instagram's.
1.0.0 — 29 July 2026
- First public release. Post photos, carousels, reels and stories from a desktop browser, schedule them, download media in full quality, and reuse reel audio.
What is not on this list
Several builds were finished and then superseded before they were uploaded — 1.1.2 to 1.2.1, 1.2.5 to 1.3.2, 1.5.2, 1.6.1, 1.6.2, 1.6.5, 2.1.0, 3.0.3, 3.1.0 and 3.1.1 among them, and 3.2.0 to 3.3.1, which arrive inside 3.3.2. They are not listed because no user ever ran them. The entries above are the releases that actually reached people, and the dates are the dates they went live rather than the dates they were built.
